So today I thought I would do a post on all of my oil products in my current skin, body and hair care routine. When I was younger, I was TERRIFIED of any product with oil in it as I always had terrible acne and was always so scared that anything with oil would immediately clog my already oily skin and make my acne worse.
However, as I got older and started getting into the beauty world I was always hearing about oils that were actually amazing for your skin including for girls that suffered from acne. Into The Gloss, one of my forever favourite blogs, has written several posts on the benefits of essential oils as well as argan oil both of which I have been using in my beauty routine. This soon led to my interest in body oils as well as hair oils as well 🙂
First in the line up is Bio-Oil which I have been using and loving for the past six months. As the Bio-Oil website states, Bio-Oil is “a specialist skincare oil that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. It is also effective for aging and dehydrated skin.” I also love it because it keeps my skin super soft and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue behind. I always apply it to damp skin when I am fresh out of the shower or bath and then wait a few minutes before getting dressed and my skin feels like silk in no time. I find it particularly soothing on freshly shaven legs as well which has been so amazing for the summer.
Next up is my current favourite hair oil which is the OGX Renewing Argan Oil of Morocco Weightless Healing Dry Oil. As a girl with fine hair, hair oils have always made me anxious as I have tried many in the past and they have always weighed my hair down or made it look oily even when I just used it on the ends of my hair. This oil however, as the name states, is a dry oil which means that its super lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy on your hair upon applying it. I always apply it to the ends of my damp hair and then blow dry it which fuses the Moroccan argan oil into the hair giving it amazing shine and making my hair look so healthy and smooth. I also use it on days when I haven’t washed my hair and have just used some dry shampoo by spraying it into my hands and lightly applying to the ends of my hair to give it lots of shine and to help keep my ends hydrated and smooth. It also sprays super evenly and smells amazing which is always a plus.
Another hair oil also in this lineup which I just happened to pick up on a whim when my hair was super dry last winter and it is the Tamar Oil Treatment. Oddly enough I cannot find this product online and if I do, the label is written in Hebrew as this product is directly from Israel. I grabbed this oil at Winners (YAY for finding amazing international beauty products there!) and thought I would try it out on my dry ends- only to find out that this oil was waaayyyy to heavy for my hair. I wasn’t really sure what to do with this product until I read an interview on Into The Gloss of the stunningly beautiful Priyanka Chopra who was speaking about how she does hot oil messages on her hair to keep her hair healthy which she explained was an old Indian traditional. And I mean, if I could even look 1% like her I would be happy so I thought I would research it more and give it a try with this oil since it was quite a heavy oil and is packed with “date extract, argan oil and keratin”. Through my research I found that many women who do these hot oil massages usually use coconut oil (which I’m not going to lie – I also bought too but haven’t used yet) but I am happy to report that I was very happy with this product. I usually do an oil massage with this oil treatment once a week and literally just massage it into my roots and comb it all through my hair until my ends and leave it on for a couple hours then wash it out with shampoo and conditioner and my hair looks and feels incredible after. Once the product is all rinsed out my hair is so shiny and soft and I can tell that after doing this a couple times my hair has become much stronger and healthier.
One of my favourite face oils that I have been using lately has been the Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light which has completely transformed my skin for the better. This all natural oil keeps my skin moisturized and hydrated and gives me such an amazing glow the next morning when I apply it the night before. After I wash, tone and moisturize my skin before bed I apply this over time to lock everything in including my eye cream and wake up with soft and glowing skin that looks brand new. Josie Maran also has another version of this oil that is more thick in consistency which I may switch to in the winter when I need more moisture for my skin as I love this product so much.
Another face oil that I used to use religiously and am now becoming obsessed with again is the Now Foods Rosehip Seed Oil. To be honest I’m not entirely sure why I stopped using this oil – I think I just kept discovering more products that I wanted to incorporate in my nightly skincare routine and this fell to the side as I had used it for so long and wanted to try something new. Lately though my skin has been extremely dry and has been breaking out quite a bit since the seasons are changing so when I saw this bottle at a local health food store, all of my fond memories with this product came rushing back and I needed it there and then! As the Huffington Post outlines in their article, rosehip seed oil is amazing for people with acne because it keeps your acne under control without clogging your pores and breaking you out more. It is also amazing for fading any acne scars you may have and minimizing pores while also moisturizing your skin, calming down any redness and fading fine lines. I apply this after I wash my face and my skin is still damp and then let it soak into my skin before crawling into bed and the next day I wake up to happy, glowing skin!
And finally, I have also been using the Now Foods Lavender Oil at night to help relax me and help me to sleep faster. Lately life has had me pretty stressed out so I figured why not give this oil a try since everyone seems to swear by lavender to help relax them. I am happy to report that I find this oil super calming and relaxing and that it has really helped with me falling asleep much faster than I have been lately. I usually just take two drops and dab them under my ears on my neck before I go to bed at night which allows me to smell the lavender without it being overpowering.
Does anyone else have other great beauty oils that they use? 🙂
