I feel like Essence Makeup was always one of those makeup displays I would see at Shoppers Drug Mart but never really stopped to explore because I was always so focused on other brands. To be perfectly honest, the prices of Essence Makeup products were so inexpensive that it always made me cautious to try them out because I never thought that something that inexpensive could be that good.
However, the other day I accidentally broke a MAC lipstick after I had JUST bought it and, being the broke girl that I am, was really not impressed with shelling out another $25 for a new tube. When I realized a drugstore option would be a better bet for my wallet, I immediately thought of Essence Makeup because of their prices.
Once I started browsing their lip products I was really impressed with their selection and shade variety. They have lip glosses, lipsticks, lip pencils, lip OIL- you name it. The craziest part is that each product was UNDER $5.00. That’s right. $5.00. Somehow.
Armed with this discovery, I knew myself well enough to force myself to get less than five products as I could very clearly see myself spending way too much money due to pure excitement.
The first product that caught my eye was their XXXL Shine Lip Gloss. If you know me even a little bit, you know I love a good gloss so the fact that this was triple the shine was even better. Always a lover of a nude lip, I purchased the shade Nude Kiss which is a very pinky-mauve colour that looks beautiful alone or on top of a lipstick or lip pencil. I find it to be very moisturizing on my lips and I also find that it lasts forever. At $2.99 a tube, I will be stocking up in multiples once this puppy is done.
I also bought one of their Lip Liners in the shade 11- In The Nude. I love this product because it is easy to apply, especially if you want to over line your lips, because the pencil is super soft and blendable allowing you to just trace over your natural lip line without looking too sharp or obvious. It also helps that this shade is the true definition of a ‘your-lips-but-better”. This makes it really great to wear on its own if you want a really natural look with subtle, defined lips or with any lip colour possible since it is neutral. I have actually been wearing it with the XXXL Shine Lip Gloss and this combo makes my lips look so plump and juicy (if I do say so myself π ).
I also purchased two lipsticks since I was still mourning over my MAC incident. I decided on one of their Long Lasting Lipsticks in the shade 07 Natural Beauty which is gorgeous rose colour. It compliments any makeup look I am wearing without overpowering it. I love how it looks natural but with just a hint of an extra punch that makes my face look more alive. This shade is so feminine and pretty without being too girly and I have received so many compliments every time I wear it.
The final product that I chose was one of their Sheer and Shine Lipsticks in the shade 12 Candy Love. This product, as the name suggests, goes on quite sheer but is super easy to build should you want a more dramatic look. It is the perfect everyday lipstick for those days when you just want something on your lips without wanting to commit to a full lip. Because it is sheer, you also don’t have to worry about any touch ups or any bleeding as it seamlessly blends into your lip colour.
Therefore, I must admit that I was dead wrong to assume that inexpensive equaled low quality. Every single product on this list has went above and beyond my expectations and I am so happy to have found a new brand that I love and will continue to use. I can’t wait to explore the other products Essence Makeup offers β€
Do you like their glosses? I find them a bit sticky. But their lipsticks are so good!

I am wondering how comfortable and hydrating the lipsticks were? I am someone who definitely struggles with dry lips. I just did a review last week of their blushes on my blog if you want to check it out π

Don’t you love when you find that their quality is actually really freaking good for their price?! I love essence products, and while I haven’t tried their lipsticks line yet (they’re ALWAYS out of the shades I want the most), the other products like their blushes and highlighters are really good. I haven’t tried their lip glosses either because I’m not a big fan, but everyone (even you) loves them lol.
I have that lip liner shade and three other ones. They’re really good, comfortable and creamy. π
Love the lip shades you got!
