Sorry I’ve been MIA! I actually got all four of my wisdom teeth out last Wednesday! I had the surgery done at the hospital and then went home to my parents house for a few days to recover and didn’t really feel much like posting while I was resting up.
Guys, I was SO nervous before the surgery. Mainly because I had never been put under anesthetic before and was so scared I would have some sort of crazy reaction when I woke up like the ones that we always see on YouTube. I honestly thought I would wake up in a terrible amount of pain and be bed ridden and swollen for days since so many of my friends jumped at the chance to tell me all about their horror stories from their operations (thanks guys).
To be perfectly honest, the actual operation and the aftermath wasn’t that bad. The nurses and my dental surgeon were super sweet to me especially since I legit walked into the operating room and announced that I was extremely nervous to the whole room. After I asked a million questions, they told me to relax as we were about to start and that once I woke up I would just feel super drunk. Then, before I knew it, I was awake and feeling very, very groggy and and very, very drunk.
The whole process took about 20 minutes and I awoke to a ton of gauze in my mouth that I kept in for the ride home. I was really anxious about my freezing wearing off before I could pop some pain meds because I had heard that you NEEDED to take something for the pain before the freezing wore off or the pain would be tremendous. Not thinking, I tried to take something only to drool all over my shirt since my whole lower face was so frozen and couldn’t figure out how to swallow anything (lol).
Ed. Note – at this point I had also escaped my wheelchair after my mom told me to sit still while she went to put my things in the car and proceeded to rip all of the gauze out my mouth because I was convinced I was choking on it. I then cornered three poor nurses in the waiting room to ask for help, only to be scolded by them and my mom upon her return for breaking free of my wheelchair and literally doing everything they had told me not to do. Sigh…
About an hour later, I took the gauze out and was finally able to take a few small Ibuprofen along with the antibiotics I was prescribed. By religiously taking Ibuprofen and the antibiotics on a strict schedule, I actually didn’t feel much pain for the next couple of days and didn’t even need to take the T3’s they had given me just in case of any severe pain.
I’m writing this almost a week after my surgery and I have just finished my antibiotic and no longer need any pain medication. I feel like the stitches in my mouth have started to become more apparent as I guess they will be starting to dissolve soon which is an uncomfortable feeling but not unbearable. The biggest hurdle I have been facing, besides the fact that I’m STARVING, is trying to keep all of the open wounds clean from food to avoid infection as well as a dry socket which, tbh, is my biggest fear at the moment because it sounds painful AF.
But anyway, since I was so nervous the night before my operation, I decided to take my mind off of thinking about it and really focus on what skincare and hair products I would be bringing home with me since I knew I wouldn’t be doing much in the following days. I really focused on skincare products that wouldn’t require a lot of rinsing or rubbing as to not irritate or hurt my jaw area. I also really wanted to take this time to not wear makeup and to just let me skin breathe and give it a bit of a break.
Below are the products I chose (along with about a million sheet masks not pictured which you can read about here):
Ouai Volume Shampoo – goes with me everywhere and is the only shampoo I have used for the past year. Period.
Vichy Normaderm Deep Cleansing Gel – my go-to cleansing gel since I was in high school. It keeps my acne at bay while never drying out my skin. Simple and gets the job done.
Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask – please see here and here. ❤
Herbal Essences Naked Volumizing Souffle – the best volumizing mousse I have found for my fine hair. It never leaves my hair heavy, crunchy or oily and it keeps my hair voluminous all day. This is not an easy feat.
Clinique Acne Solutions Clearing Moisturizer Oil-Free – just wrote about my love for this blue cutie here. 😀
Neutrogena Rapid Clear Treatment Pads – these are the best for any acne you may be experiencing on your chest and/or back. I love to use these on days when I’m too tired to shower before bed but still want to make sure my body acne is looked after. Super portable and inexpensive as well 😀
Joise Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light – Joise Maran is my GIRL. There is no way I could ever heal properly – physically and/or emotionally – without this on my skin. Moisturizes, brightens and plumps – highly, highly recommend.
Avene Cleanance Hydra Soothing Cream – my love for Avene products runs deep and always has. I use this on days when I’m not wearing makeup because it really tones down any redness I have while still keeping my skin hydrated. Therefore, the perfect day moisturizer post-surgery.
Pixi Glow Tonic – so much yes to this product. My skin has never looked better after using almost this whole bottle. I am literally going out tonight to buy the bigger size. YES YES YES.
Soft and Dry Aluminum Free Deodorant – I refuse to use any antiperspirant after hearing far too many mixed opinions regarding whether or not it is safe to use. Better safe than sorry in my opinion and this deodorant does a wonderful job of making me smell and feel so fresh and so clean.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Fluid Lotion SPF 60 – my everyday facial sunscreen and I am obsessed with wearing sunscreen. Super light, sinks in fast and doesn’t leave a white film on my face. Plus, it also looks good under makeup.
Biotrue Multi-Purpose Contact Solution – nothing too fancy here. Never irritates my eyes, easy to use bottle and comes in a travel size too.
L’Oreal Defense Eye Cream – I recently professed my love for this product here. A great quality drug store eye cream that I always come back to.
As you can see, several of these products I have written about before on here but this just goes to show that when I’m down for the count and need dependable products that really work, I can always count on having these in my arsenal 😀
Have any of you had your wisdom teeth out? How did it go for you? What beauty products can you always count on? ❤
Aw. I am still in the stage where my wisdom tooth pops out to hurt once in a while. And no Eating! that must’ve been terrible. I hope you get well soon! 🙂
